Eternal Things

What is it about today's society that has it all backwards? What i mean is people are so caught up in things, and success, and happiness for this life! WHAT ABOUT THE NEXT?!?!?! People try their whole life to "make it" in this world. They focus on monetary success, and popularity, and what kind of car the person next to them at a red light is driving and how they wished they could afford it. They dwell on the next great thing that they can do to impress their boss when their boss will forget they did it hours after it is complete.

I am not saying that we shouldn't be successful, or do well at out jobs. On the contrary, I think we as Christians should be good stewards of our jobs and do well at where God has us at any given time. I believe that Christians get so caught up in the stresses and successes of life, that we lose focus on why we truly are here. I would rather lie on my death bed and know that I had some kind of eternal impact on this world. If it means that I can think of one person that saw my life and it motivated them to change their life and accept Christ as their Lord, it would be well worth it. I do not want to be lying on my death bed and only have worldly successes to take with me into eternity.

The reality is that we are all going to one of two places... Heaven or Hell. In Heaven, all the earthly successes won't be worthy enough to be brought into that side of eternity. In Hell our worldly successes will simply burn up in eternal fire. :) So either way.... THEY DON'T MAKE IT!

In the Air Force we have what we call "I love me walls". This is where you display all of your accomplishments throughout your career. Now, I must say that my office does have a wall designated as my "I love me wall". But God has been teaching me something. He has been teaching me to hate that wall. Not that I am not proud of what I have accomplished in the Air Force, but that it is all temporary. It doesn't matter. It is staying on this side of eternity. The reality for me these days is that if it isn't an eternal success... it means very little to me. I can't imagine living in eternity with God knowing that I could have focused more of my attention to impacting people's eternities and increased His kingdom and never took advantage of that opportunity. Eternity is real. How will you impact it?
